The answer is: No. And here’s why WhatsApp should not be used in an organisation.
- WhatsApp belongs to Facebook and is certified under the US-EU Privacy Shield. This makes it legally possible to transfer data to the US government, even if your are not a US citizen.
- WhatsApp asks for permission to upload all contact data to identify familiar persons using WhatsApp. Without this permission WhatsApp is not useable. The problem is that your contacts are are not asked. That’s simply against the GDPR law.
- Another problem is that WhatsApp is almost always used for private conversations (friends, family, …). Once you are using WhatsApp on your business smartphone, your business contacts will be transferred to Facebook as well. Again, without their permission and against the GDPR law.
